The holidays are over and you’re feeling a bit bleugh. You can’t face another turkey sandwich, only the rubbish chocolates are left in the box and the worst thing about the hideous jumper from Aunty Mabel is that it’s a bit too snug. You told yourself that you’d start a new fitness regime in the New Year, so why not sign up to Race for Research and commit to your resolution?
Throughout the month of January, we challenge you to run 26.2 miles, cycle 100 miles or walk 50 miles. Fear not! The miles don’t have to be clocked up in one go (we hear your sighs of relief!) – you can take as little or as long as you’d like over the course of the month.
As part of #TEAMKIDNEY you'll receive:
- A Kidney Research UK t-shirt
- A fundraising pack full of tips and ideas
- Regular updates to inspire you with training and fundraising
Have a read through the below FAQ’s to find out a bit more before signing up!
How do I track my miles?
We recommend using a fitness app such as Strava or Map My Run. These are easy to use and will track your miles for you. App on, headphones in and off you go!
I haven’t done much exercise. How do I get started?
If you’ve not been active for a while, you will need to build your basic fitness levels. It’s a good idea to start slowly or interval training to do this. Our Training Zone is filled with lots of tips to get you started.
Is there a registration fee?
Nope! Signing up to Race for Research is free, but we do ask that you raise a minimum of £50 sponsorship to raise money for life-saving research.
When?
The challenge is taking part from the 1 to 31 January, or however long it takes you between those dates to blast through the miles. You can start fundraising now though!
Where?
That’s up to you. Miles are miles whether they’re completed in the park, on an exercise bike or running around a track!
How do I start fundraising?
We’ll send you a welcome pack which will include a running vest (remember to add your name on the front!) and a fundraising toolkit. The toolkit contains lots of tips and ideas to help you achieve the £50 sponsorship goal and beyond! It can also be viewed online here.
How will you know I’ve completed my miles?
Fitness apps will generate monthly reports. When you’ve completed your miles take a screenshot of the report and send it to us at events@kidneyresearchuk.org with ‘Race for Research’ as the subject.
How do I pay in my money?
Ask people to make donations via your online fundraising page and they will automatically come to us. Easy! If you’ve collected cash you can pay in the money yourself to your page using a debit or credit card. Cheques made payable to Kidney Research UK can be sent to Kidney Research UK, Nene Hall, Lynch Wood Park, Peterborough, PE2 6FZ. We can even send you a paying-in slip for your nearest branch of Barclays. Whatever is easiest for you!
Will I get a medal?
Keep your eyes peeled for the postie in February to find out!
