Dylan Walsh - London Marathon 2009

Dylan Walsh

Seeing his mother, Tydfil, looking drained and tired after each dialysis session inspired Dylan Walsh to run the Flora London Marathon for Kidney Research UK because he wants to help fund medical research to help his mother and those suffering from kidney failure. He crossed the line in 5:01:29.

However, while the 29-year-old, from Merthyr Tydfil, was training for the marathon his mother received a call from the hospital and five hours later had her transplant operation at Prince Charles Hospital.

Dylan said: ‘Even though my mother has been lucky enough to have a transplant, there are thousands not so lucky. Therefore, I would like to help raise as much money as I can for Kidney Research UK.’

‘On the day I couldn’t have given it anymore, I pushed myself over the limit. Crossing the finish line was one of the best feelings ever, especially the last two miles. I don’t think that I would have got the time that I did, if it hadn’t been for the crowds cheering me on. All of the aches and pains are definitely worth it!’
