Research Priorities

Patients help shape the future of research into kidney disease!

We have, with your help have carried out a major piece of research which has been undertaken with the Renal Association. The Renal Association is the professional body for renal physicians and kidney doctors, active in the development of renal services in Britain and promoting research into this field. The RA also provides a professional body for a number of renal scientists doing all sorts of clinical as well as basic renal sciences.

We aim to fund research that is relevant and valued by those directly affected by kidney disease, as well as by those working with patients with kidney diseases, and to do this we needed your help to determine the future priorities for renal research.

From the simple questionnaire, we hoped to meet the following objectives:

    * To inform research priorities by engaging with a group of interested and better informed parties.

    * To work towards addressing the problems faced by patients and their carers that will in turn shape and inform research strategies.

    * To facilitate longer-term involvement from these groups to our strategic planning.

After carrying out the initial questionnaire we then asked participants in the second stage of the research to rank the results in order of importance.

The results have been collated and analysed and we have now produced a report on the findings of the research project.

Update

We have compared the results of the patient survey with the results of an independent survey across research carried out by the Renal Association to assess if the priorities highlighted as important to patients were also areas of research activity and to interest of scientists and clinicians.
