A service was held at Manchester Cathedral last night, which was organised by Kidney Research UK, and was dedicated to those affected by kidney disease.

Organiser, Carol Bonham, said: “We would like to thank Manchester Cathedral and everyone who participated. We never cease to be amazed at the commitment and motivation of our supporters. This Thanksgiving Service, the “Gift of Life”, was a fitting celebration of all their hard work and an opportunity to celebrate individuals, volunteer fundraisers and local companies who appreciate the importance for research into kidney disease. I would like to thank everyone who helped to make the event such a success.”

Sally Young, who attended the service, said: “It was a really emotional and hard-hitting service. There were some fantastic testimonies from people involved in dealing with kidney disease. There was a particularly emotional address from Titus Augustine, a transplant surgeon and Joanna Moore, a transplant patient.   Geoff Burgess, transplant patient and Chairman NW Region Kidney Patients Association also gave a very touching reading.

“The atmosphere of the cathedral and the two choirs, Trinity School Choir and Manchester Youth Soul Choir, who earned themselves well-deserved applause, made the service very poignant.
