Right now, the lives of over three million people in the UK are threatened by chronic kidney disease. We can only fund lifesaving research with your help.

The award winning Freemont Group set a challenge to the construction industry earlier in the year; get fit and raise funds for Kidney Research UK.
The event attracted 25 teams from throughout the industry such as big brand names BAM, Bovis Lend Lease, Mace, Shepherd Construction, Thornfield Properties plc and More London Developments. Sponsors included Creative Lynx, Smith Group UK Ltd, The Build Center and Supply UK.
The outdoor activity event, which took place against the rugged backdrop of Coniston Water in the Lake District, was to raise funds for Kidney Research UK and to provide a rather unorthodox networking opportunity for construction colleagues at the same time. Co-ordinated by adventure organisers Trail Plus, the event involved teams of 4 facing a 5 hour points-scoring challenge including kayaking, cycling, orienteering and mental agility tests.
Noel Ruane, Director at Salford-based The Freemont Group commented, “we wanted to challenge construction men and women from all over the North West to pit-it out against us at Coniston. We achieved that with a great event and most importantly we raised over £16 000 for Kidney Research UK. We just want to thank everyone that took part and helped to make it a huge success.”
The winning team leader, Damien Hilborne, from Thornfield Properties plc commented, “The day itself was fantastically well organised and it made me feel very proud to take part in the event. The sense of achievement at the end was unbelievable. We will definitely be back next year”.
The reason Freemont Group chose to support Kidney Research UK as their chosen charity was that Group Director, Charles Roland, has had first hand experience of the charity’s excellent work. “My wife Tracey has unfortunately suffered from kidney disease since age 11 and has undergone three transplants in that time. Thankfully she’s doing OK now but only because of the important work being carried out in kidney research to allow us to understand conditions better”.
The event has now become a permanent fixture in the construction industry diary with twelve teams already registered for next year.
