In 2006 I was studying my degree at Liverpool University when I became unwell. My appendix burst and after many many complications my kidneys failed and I ended up on dialysis. For many months I was very unwell and would not be considered for transplant. In 2007 my fiancee Steve offered to donate, not actually expecting it to happen! Luckily our blood types are compatable, and although our tissue typing isn't great it can be controlled with drugs. In 2008 we decided to go back to University to do our Masters degrees and put off the transplant until now, so I could get stronger and have a year without any operations! The whole time I was at University I dialysed three times a week for 4 hours at a time (HD). Now I have passed my degree and am awaiting my transplant in a few weeks.

Happy 2012

9 Jan 2012

Happy 2012 everyone! Here's to a happy, healthy new year. After spending Boxing day evening in A&E with a pulse of 120 and a skyrcoketing temperature, I know I want to spend as little time in hospital as possible! Other than my dialysis of course! I hope to raise lots of money for Kidney Research this year and also do lots of campaigning for the charity. Someone on our unit got a kidney on christmas day! The lucky things. Hopefully a few more of us will get the call this year too. Hope you all had a great christmas and are having a great start to your January. xxx

Fashion Show

30 Nov 2011

Fashion ShowWow the fashion show was amazing. Ian Pulseton-Davies (Owen from Corrie so I am told!) was there auctioning off some of the casts dresses and yours truly strutted her stuff in the gorgeous Foxy Frox and Love Frocks outfits! Was nice to have my hair and make up done, made me forget about the dialysis I had the next day! The gorgeous Charlene (second piccy, on the catwalk!) organised it all and it all went off without a hitch! I didn't even fall over. The money raised was split between two charities so for Kidney Research £1200 was raised! Congratulations to all the gorgeous models, and thanks for letting me take part! xx

Fashion Show

12 Nov 2011

Fashion show tomorrow, scary! Keep an eye out on FB for all the piccies and I will get one posted on here! Dialysis again be going ok, although had to go on one needle last night as the pressure was so high on the top site. There were no nurses available who felt comfortable needling me again so we went to one needle. Deffo need to learn to do it myself I think! Apparently the NxStage they use in the US is the new thing over here too. That will allow me to be flexible with dialysis. May take me a while to learn to needle (my graft is pretty tough) but myself and another patient have said we would learn together. Should be fun!
